Here's the thing about brand voice: every creator has one. Most just can't name it. And when you can't name it, you can't replicate it — especially not at scale with AI.
After working with dozens of creators, we've found that almost every strong creator voice maps to one of six archetypes. Find yours, and suddenly every brief, every prompt, every AI-generated draft gets ten times more useful.
The Six Archetypes
1. The Mentor
How they sound: Warm, experienced, guiding. Like a wise older colleague who actually wants you to succeed. They teach through their own story.
Signature phrases: “When I was starting out...” / “Here's what nobody told me” / “You don't have to make the same mistakes I did”
Who it fits: Coaches, course creators, experienced professionals sharing hard-won knowledge. Works exceptionally well on LinkedIn and email.
2. The Authority
How they sound: Confident, direct, no fluff. They state things as facts because they've earned the right to. Short sentences. No hedging.
Signature phrases: “Here's the truth” / “Most people get this wrong” / “This is what actually works”
Who it fits: Consultants, specialists, people with deep domain expertise. Performs well on Twitter/X and LinkedIn.
3. The Contrarian
How they sound: Provocative, willing to challenge consensus, energetic. They pick fights with popular advice — not for shock value, but because they genuinely believe the conventional wisdom is wrong.
Signature phrases: “Hot take:” / “Unpopular opinion” / “Everyone's telling you to [X] — here's why that's backwards”
Who it fits: Thinkers, iconoclasts, people with strong opinions built on real experience. High engagement, polarising by design.
4. The Storyteller
How they sound: Narrative-driven, emotional, immersive. They don't give you the lesson first — they earn it by taking you through an experience. You feel like you're there.
Signature phrases: “It was 2 AM and…” / “I still remember the day” / “Nobody in the room said anything”
Who it fits: Personal brands, founders, anyone with a compelling origin story. Instagram, TikTok, long-form email.
5. The Educator
How they sound: Clear, structured, methodical. They love frameworks and numbered lists. They want you to understand — not just be inspired. Every post teaches something concrete.
Signature phrases: “There are 3 types of...” / “Step 1:” / “Here's the framework I use”
Who it fits: Teachers, technical experts, systematisers. Pinterest and LinkedIn love this voice. Email lists grow fast with it.
6. The Peer
How they sound: Casual, honest, like a friend texting you. They don't position themselves as above the audience — they're figuring it out alongside them. Relatable over polished.
Signature phrases: “Okay real talk” / “I messed this up so you don't have to” / “Not gonna lie”
Who it fits: Newer creators, niche communities, TikTok and Instagram audiences. High trust, high shareability.
How To Find Yours
Go back and read your last ten pieces of content — or look at the comments you get most. Not which ones performed, but which ones felt the most natural to write. The ones where the words came easy.
That's your dominant archetype. Most people are a blend of two — usually with one that leads. Name it, then lean into it hard.
💡 Most creators try to sound like everyone. Pick your archetype and go all in. Specific voices attract specific audiences. Vague voices attract no one.
Why This Matters For AI Content
When you use AI to write content without telling it your voice archetype, it defaults to “generic professional.” That's the flavour of AI content everyone mocks.
But when you tell the AI “I'm a Contrarian voice targeting early-stage founders — I challenge conventional startup advice with blunt directness and short punchy sentences”? That's when the output actually sounds like you.
This is exactly why the Repurpose Engine has a voice config step — you pick your archetype, describe your refinements, and add your blocklist. Every output is filtered through that lens before it ever reaches you.
